GREEN IS GOLD, which is artists/curators Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe (DK) and Ditte Knus Tønnesen (DK), and it's two affiliated artists Asle Lauvland Pettersen (N) and Keith Allen (UK) was invited to LungA Art Festival 2012 to make an exhibition in Skaftfell Center for Visual Art's main gallery space: 1,000,000 Acres Of Sky is an exhibition based on a combination of previous and site-specific works made on location in Seydisfjordur.
’There are now new experiences of space and time; new tensions between globalism and regionalism, socialism and consumerism, reality and spectacle; new instabilities of value, meaning and identity – a dialect between past and future. How are we to understand these?’
- MAPPING THE FUTURES: Local cultures and global change
The show sees four artists present both new and pre-existing individual works that examine and reference social, cultural and economical issues in small communities. These issues include the outside perception of a community existing in apparent isolation, its acceptance of geographical constraints and the natural elements, varying methods of local and global communication in a small independent society and the perspicacity of isolated peoples regarding distance and time and the effects such conditions have on the society. The artists see culture as not timeless but that it is rather inexorably caught up in time, in the restless movements and shifting tides of the world.
Artists:
Ditte Knus Tønnesen (b. 1982) is a Danish artist who graduated with a first class BA (hons) in Fine Art Photography from The Glasgow School of Art, Scotland in 2008. In her work she investigates how individual understanding becomes a unique way of communication and is fascinated by the idea that reality can often be seen as layers of understanding from diverse cultures, languages, religions and political views. Knus Tønnesen’s interest lies in the intersection that occurs between different material's qualities, histories and contexts. She currently lives and works in Denmark, and has exhibited in Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Germany, Norway and Denmark. www.ditteknus.com
Asle Lauvland Pettersen (b.1978) is a Norwegian artist and theater set designer whose work consists of conceptual, fundamental installations. In Pettersen’s practice, video, objects and performances are often combined with an expression of almost dogmatic conceptual ideas.
Educated as a visual artist and stage designer from the National Academy of Arts, Oslo and The Danish National School of Theatre he has exhibited in Norway, Denmark, USA, Iceland, Germany and Spain.
Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe (b. 1981) is a Danish visual artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark.
