Raised by a Pack of Wild Wizards
Exhibition and performance by Geir Helgi Birgisson (IS)
́Raised By A Pack Of Wild Wizards ́ is Icelandic artist Geir Helgi Birgissonʼs first solo show in Denmark. Birgisson has been invited by Green Is Gold to produce entirely new, site specific, work for this exhibition.
Birgisson’s eye is drawn to spacial and architectural dimensions and his work results in the gallery becoming an almost overwhelming space where the totality of his concepts and ideas are somehow clear above the chaotic aesthetic he has employed. His work often consists of a wide range of different materials and mediums including light, sound, aluminium, paper, wood, cardboard, tape, paint, video, performance, fabric and borrowed and found objects. It is this mass collaboration of materials and mediums that generates the wonderfully chaotic element of his practice as fore-mentioned.
Geir Helgi Birgisson graduated from The Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2008, as one of the youngest students ever. He had begun his art studies, after being accepted at the tender age of only 16, normally the academy requires the applicant to be 20.
His practice also includes music, his main focus being Skwee, a Scandinavian music genre originating around year 2006/07. Birgisson lives and works in Reykjavik.
