Ekskursion
Ditte Knus Tønnesen (DK)
The solo exhibition ‘Ekskursion’ by Ditte Knus Tønnesen sees her createa body of new work based on a new interpretation of traditional Danish attractions such as
specific places, objects or identities. Knus Tønnesen challenges the
national characteristics and asks which of these the Danes can identify with in 2012.
The works appear as meta-souvenirs and play on an ambiguity by being both physical objects that are present and illustrative references to well-known trademarks and national ideals.
The interaction of the work creates a discourse regarding what the public wish to highlight in their nation. A highlight that often cultivates a caricature of the nation's values, devoid of negative elements and disillusions.
Knus Tønnesen’s interest lies in the intersection that occurs between different material's qualities, history and context. The work in the exhibition consists of analogue B / W photography, colour prints, ceramics, paper cut-outs, plastic casts and readymades. These materials and mediums provide diverse expressions that open up new associations and contexts.
Ditte Knus Tønnesen (b. 1982, DK) graduated with a first class BA (hons) Fine Art Photography from The Glasgow School of Art, Scotland. She has since exhibited in Ireland, The United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Norway and Denmark.
In November 2011 she started Green Is Gold together with Danish artist Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe. The space focuses on progressive art practices, independent of trends and tendencies in art.
